The Isle of Man issued a set of six stamps to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Curraghs Wildlife Park, one of the Island’s most popular attractions.
The stamps depicts some of the Curraghs Wildlife Park’s most successfully bred endangered species. The animals featured on stamps are fishing cats, red pandas, Humboldt penguins, Waldrapp ibis, ruffed lemur and the Rodrigues fruit bat.
The stamps issued are to recognise the Park’s impressive work in animal husbandry and education that is so vital to the preservation of rare species and the awareness of future generations.
The Curraghs Wildlife Park is the Isle of Man’s only zoo. Constructed at the edge of the Ballaugh Curraghs a site of scientific interest (Ramsar site) the Park attracts visitors from across the Island and is a popular destination for tourists.
Curraghs Wildlife Park has been home to some of the world’s most endangered species since it opened in 1965, providing education and recreation to thousands of visitors each year with the aim of bringing people from around the world close to wildlife in a natural and open setting.

It is also a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria (BIAZA), the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), and is participating in breeding programmes that is part of a worldwide effort to manage populations of captive endangered species.
Over the last 50 years the Park has successfully bred a number of endangered birds and animals, several of which feature in the collection.
Other collectables such as postcards, first day covers and presentation packs along with stamps as issued with beautiful picture of the endangered species photographed at the Wildlife Park, depicted in their natural habitat.
